Local to the Core Vol. 2: The Punk Rock Flea Market

Punk Rock Flea Market Oshawa has grown from its humble, DIY, roots into a wildly popular must-attend event in just a few short years. Returning to the Biltmore Theatre on Sunday, November 20 from noon to 5 p.m., this punk rock pop-up event features a variety of unique vendors from across Ontario, including many local Oshawa makers and artists. In honour of the upcoming Punk Rock Flea Market, I’ll be dedicating this edition of Local to the Core to showcasing some unique vendors who will be making an appearance at the Holiday Market. For a full listing of PRFM Holiday Market vendors, follow them @prfmoshawa on Instagram.

Drop Dead Candles: Who doesn’t like skull-shaped candles? If you answered me, you’re wrong. Drop Dead’s offerings include more than just skull-shaped candles of course but their flagship design is sure to catch your eye. Melanie Martins, owner-extraordinaire of Drop Dead Candles is also one of the two mastermind organizers behind Punk Rock Flea Market Oshawa and part owner of New Ritual Brewing, also located in Oshawa.

Ghouls Night In: The other mysterious force behind Punk Rock Flea Market Oshawa is Ally, the owner of Ghoul’s Night In, a custom cross stitch artist whose creations are both relatable and hilarious! Ally is booked up for custom designs at the moment, but they will have a ton of pre-stitched stock available at Punk Rock Flea Market Oshawa, so be sure to grab something for the holidays. I recommend the Bart Simpson “Eat My Shorts” Raven because everyone needs more classic The Simpsons decorations.

Nine Lives: While you’re at Punk Rock Flea Market Oshawa or many of the local pop-up vendor markets happening throughout Durham Region over the next few months don’t forget to stop by the Nine Lives booth to stock up on some handmade fashion accessories. Whether you’re an aging scene kid, a fresh-faced goth gal, or anything in between, there is something for everyone with a punk rock heart at Nine Lives. I personally recommend an “Oshawa Punk Rock” patch for your jean or leather jacket.

While this article covered only some of the rad vendors that you can catch at the next Punk Rock Flea Market Oshawa, I hope it piqued your interest enough to check out this event and discover and support your favourite vendors. If you’re coming out make sure to track me down and say hi, I’ll be the one with the very defined mustache.
