Oshawa to host National Skating Championships

Can you believe January is almost here? Just because the holidays are coming to an end doesn’t mean the fun needs to stop! In fact, the opposite, as Oshawa will soon play host to the 2023 Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships!

Get ready because from January 9 to 15, approximately 250 of the best skaters in the country will be competing for their spot on the 2023 Canadian National Team. Skaters will face off in an epic battle of the blades to find the top competitor in women’s, men’s, pair, ice dance, and synchronized skating categories.

Whether you are a skating enthusiast or not, you won’t want to miss two-time Olympian Keegan Messing, as this may be your last chance to see him perform live after news of his retirement at the end of the 2023 season.

Other athletes to follow include Piper Gilles and Paul Poirer, who are ranked among the world’s top ice dancers and will be competing for their third consecutive National Skating Championship title against several decorated competitors; and Deanna Stellato-Dudek, who is returning from a 16-year retirement to compete in the pairs skating category.

If there is one thing I know, it’s where to eat! And, let me tell you, Oshawa has so many delectable options within walking distance of the Tribute Communities Centre.

For a quick bite…

Mama’s Yummy Food is my personal favourite! Specializing in delicious shawarma wraps and plates, the restaurant’s name says everything you need to know.

Mathilda’s hot lunch table has some of the most inspired plant-based cuisine in Durham Region. Looking for something to warm your belly? Try the Mac & Cheeze made with cashew-based sauce and vegan parmesan.

Bollywood Tacos is an Oshawa hotspot for Indian-inspired Mexican Street Food. How could you possibly go wrong with a Butter Chicken Burrito?

Pizza Munno has some of the best pizzas in the city. Try the ‘Martino’ – this is my go-to Friday pizza night order!

For a relaxing sit-down experience…

Riley’s Pub, don’t be fooled by the laid-back pub atmosphere because this pub has some of the best grub around. It’s a pub, so you’ve got to have chicken wings!

Street Momo is one of my favourite spots to eat in Oshawa. Their delicious Indian-Asian cuisine features a variety of momos, and curries and offers many vegetarian options. Ask your server about the secret menu butter chicken momos!

Avanti Trattoria will fill your belly with warm and delicious pasta. Don’t forget to order a cappuccino to go… trust me!

Berry Hill is ready for the early riser who wants to grab brunch before the event. My words will not do justice to the tasty items on their menu… so click the link; I promise you won’t be disappointed.
