Shop Local this Holiday Season

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy local! With the holidays right around the corner, consider supporting some of our hometown businesses when checking items off of your shopping list. Not only do local makers create inspired and unique items, but when you purchase these items, I've heard your heart grows 3 sizes in one day! (Actual fact.)

To make your holiday shopping easier, I've compiled some of the top spots to find awesome local gift ideas. Here goes:

THE NOOKS OSHAWA CENTRE

Dedicated to selling 100% handmade items, the Nooks is home to hundreds of locally made vendors. With everything from home décor to bath and body products, to children's items, and even delicious homemade food options - you should grab a basket, you're going to need it!

Some of my favourite vendors include Glory Days Home which specializes in funky guitar-shaped epoxy-filled charcuterie boards, Get Clayed which creates gorgeous jewelry made from polymer clay, and Bohemian which creates luxurious and delightful smelling bath and body products.

Did I mention you don't have to leave your house to shop with the Nooks? Visit the Nooks online for handmade items which can be shipped directly to your home. Think Home-made-azon.

OSHAWA'S BRIGHT AND MERRY MARKET

If the title isn't enough to get your candy cane blood pumping, let me fill you in on one of Oshawa's most exciting holiday markets of the season! The annual Bright and Merry Market will be taking place in downtown Oshawa, with events across the downtown core, on Thursday, November 17. Not only can you shop a variety of local businesses and vendors, but you also have the chance to visit with Santa, participate in the tree lighting ceremony, sip on some free hot chocolate, and check out the free entertainment in Memorial Park.

Be sure to bookmark this page for more information.

PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET

Oi! To the world and everybody wins, or at least you do with the rad homemade items you can find at the PRF Market! Jam to classic punk rock tunes while you fill your bag (don't forget to pay) with unique goods that range from original art to delicious locally roasted coffee.

Previous vendors have included Drop Dead Candles, Ghouls Night In, Abominable Ink, and The Hidden Path. Not that you need another reason to stop by, but just in case, did I mention it's hosted at the Biltmore Theatre?

Tattoo Sunday, November 20 onto your arm, so that you don't forget to stop by! The Market will run from 1 to 5 p.m.
